Visiting Family, Part One

Family Reunion

Baby Giraffe

So.  Over Memorial Day weekend, this little guy came into the world:

No, he's not mine (I've had to remind my little sister of that one several times already).  He belongs to one of my very best friends, Ellie-Bellybutton and her husband Brian.  It seems like just years ago we were laughing and joking about the day babies would be "springing up in our lives like daisies"...  (Oh wait, that WAS just a few years ago--does anyone else remember that Natasha Bedingfield song, or is it just me?)  Cutest baby ever, right?  ^_^  Anyways, despite previous ill-attempts at sewing, I couldn't resist the urge to whip something up for this little guy.  His nursery is jungle-safari themed, so I made him this little chevron quilt:

I had to wait a couple weeks for my turn to come visit him, but it was worth the wait:

Biggest success of the visit--getting him to sleep (he is so snuggly!):

Psalms 127:4-5 reads, "As arrows are in the hand of a mighty man; so are children of the youth. Happy is the man that hath his quiver full of them."  I've always kind of wondered what David meant by that... I mean, arrows are just not very cuddly.  They don't really inspire the kind of warm feelings that babies and children make me think of.  That king David... *shakes head*  Maybe what he meant, though, is that children are something you want to keep close by.  Something you want to shape and strengthen so that they are able to fly straight and true long after you release them.  And yes, something to fill  your home with.  Or maybe David was just really big into archery.  Guess I'll have to wait until the next life to figure that one out for sure!

Either way, a very big congratulations goes out to my two friends E & B.  Best wishes as you begin your new journey as parents!

Lotsa' love,
me
